Monely vs GuiaBolso: Which Finance App Should You Choose?
In this article

Update, 11 August 2026: GuiaBolso is no longer available. The shutdown was announced on 27 October 2022 and the app went dark in November of that year. PicPay, which had bought the company, absorbed its services into a section called “Minhas financas”. This article was rebuilt on that date: everything said about GuiaBolso is in the past tense and comes with a source, and everything said about Monely is what the app does today.

What happened to GuiaBolso

On 27 October 2022, the Brazilian fintech outlet Finsiders Brasil reported that GuiaBolso “will be shut down in November” and that the app would be discontinued over the course of the following month. The same article states that PicPay announced the acquisition of GuiaBolso and that all services and tools built by GuiaBolso had already been folded into PicPay, in a section called “Minhas financas”.

Users had a window to take their data with them. According to the outlet Epic Geek, in a piece published on 8 November 2022, the download stayed available until 18 November of that year, with the file sent by email.

Three caveats, because they change what can be claimed:

  • The exact shutdown date is not confirmed. The sources say November 2022 and cite 18 November as the final download deadline. We found no announcement carrying the shutdown date itself.
  • The acquisition date has conflicting versions. The article read on 11 August 2026 says August 2021. Search results mention July 2021, and that second version was not validated.
  • The official site does not open. On 11 August 2026, guiabolso.com.br still resolves in DNS, but the server does not complete the TLS handshake. With no live site, there is no primary source left to re-check what the app did.

What can be verified today, and what cannot

This is the part most comparisons skip. An app that is offline has no pricing page, no store listing, and no help center to check. So what follows is split between what was verified on 11 August 2026 and what has no source.

When to choose GuiaBolso

The honest answer on 11 August 2026 is that you cannot. The app was shut down in November 2022, and there is no way to install it, subscribe to it, or retrieve data from it.

What still holds is the reason people chose GuiaBolso in the first place. In those cases Monely is the wrong tool, and it is worth saying so without hedging.

1. You want transactions to arrive on their own, from the bank. That was GuiaBolso’s entire premise, and it is exactly what Monely does not do, by product decision. In Monely, an entry comes from a WhatsApp message, a receipt photo, typing, or an imported file. If the idea of typing or photographing anything is what breaks the habit for you, look for an app with bank connections. Among the ones we verified on 11 August 2026: Wallet by BudgetBakers states on its official features page that it connects to over 15,000 banks worldwide, while the description on its Brazilian App Store listing, read the same day, says 4,000 participating banks. Both figures come from the company itself and do not match, so treat the order of magnitude as declared, not as audited. In Brazil, Organizze offers bank connection via Open Finance from its Conectado plan at R$ 45 per month, 12 instalments of R$ 39.90, or R$ 399.90 upfront (organizze.com.br/planos), and Minhas Financas offers it on its Bank plans, with Sync Bank at R$ 199.90 per year for up to 3 banks and refreshes up to 4 times a day (minhasfinancas.app.br/planos-precos). We did not verify bank-by-bank coverage for any of the three.

2. You want a category cap that warns you when you go over. Monely does not have one. It shows the distribution by category and the comparison between periods, which helps you review afterwards, not brake mid-month. If a spending-limit alert is mandatory for you, that is a disqualifier and there is no way around it.

3. You need an app installed on your computer. Monely runs in the browser at web.monely.app, which requires being online. There is no native app for Windows, macOS, or Linux. Among the apps verified on 11 August 2026, Minhas Financas advertises Windows and macOS versions on its official site, and the Mobills listing on the Brazilian App Store lists macOS 12 or later with an M1 chip.

4. You need to log expenses without internet. Monely does not work offline. On a plane, in a dead zone, or with your data plan exhausted, you cannot record now and sync later.

5. You need to hand over a PDF report. Monely exports to CSV. There is no PDF output, so anyone who needs a finished document for a third party will format it elsewhere.

When to choose Monely

  • Friction is your problem, not lack of data. Logging happens from a WhatsApp message, in text, audio, or image, without opening the app.
  • You split bills with someone who earns differently from you. Shared groups calculate each person’s contribution from their income instead of splitting down the middle.
  • Your financial life does not fit in one currency. There are 155 currencies plus Bitcoin and 8 languages, which covers people paid from abroad, travelling, or living in another country.
  • You are leaving another app. There are 5 direct importers, with ready-made mapping for Wallet, Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins, and Splital, plus 6 file formats accepted on import.
  • You do not want credit offers in the middle of your statement. The model is a subscription, with no ads and no third-party products on any plan.

If you saved your GuiaBolso file

The data download stayed available until 18 November 2022, according to Epic Geek. If you still have that file, Monely’s import accepts 6 formats: spreadsheets in .csv, .tsv, .xls, and .xlsx, and bank statements in .ofx and .qfx. PDF is not accepted, so a report in PDF has to become a spreadsheet first.

There is no dedicated GuiaBolso importer. The 5 ready-made mappings are for Wallet, Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins, and Splital. A file from any other source goes through the standard import flow, by file format.

Privacy, stated plainly

Monely does not access banking data because it does not connect to any bank. The model is a subscription, with no ads and no third-party product offers on any plan.

On WhatsApp it is worth being exact, because this point is often described badly: there is no end-to-end encryption in the Monely flow. The Privacy Policy describes encryption in transit and at rest, which is a different thing.

On the GuiaBolso side there is no privacy policy to quote. The site does not open on 11 August 2026.

Prices, with verification dates

A price with no source and no date ages into a falsehood. These were read on official pages on 11 August 2026. The alternatives listed here are Brazilian apps, priced in Brazilian reais.

Two notes that prevent errors:

  • Mobills. The figure of R$ 199.90 per year circulates on coupon sites and third-party comparisons. The official pricing page, read on 11 August 2026, shows a single figure: R$ 99.90 per year.
  • In-app purchases. The store listings for Mobills, Organizze, and Wallet list several amounts without saying which one maps to which billing period. That is why only the figures labelled on each official page are quoted here.

Conclusion

A comparison against an app that no longer exists is only useful if it says so in the first line. GuiaBolso was shut down in November 2022, after an announcement published on 27 October of that year, and its services were absorbed by PicPay.

If you landed here looking for a replacement, the criterion that separates the options is simple. If what you want is for the bank to feed the app on its own, Monely is not it: look at Wallet by BudgetBakers, or, in Brazil, at Organizze and Minhas Financas on their bank-connected plans, with the prices verified above. If what stalls your tracking is the friction of opening an app and typing, Monely solves it the other way, with a WhatsApp message, a receipt photo, or a file import, across 155 currencies and 8 languages.

Frequently asked questions

Is GuiaBolso still running?

No. The shutdown was announced on 27 October 2022, when Finsiders Brasil reported that the app 'will be shut down in November'. The same article states that PicPay had bought GuiaBolso and that its services were folded into PicPay, in a section called 'Minhas financas'. On 11 August 2026 the domain guiabolso.com.br still resolves in DNS, but the server does not complete the TLS handshake and the site does not open. We found no announcement giving the exact shutdown date.

Until when could you download your GuiaBolso data?

Until 18 November 2022. The Brazilian outlet Epic Geek, in a piece published on 8 November 2022, reported that users could download their data until that date and would receive the file by email. After that there is no public export route, because the official site does not open.

Does Monely have automatic bank sync?

No, and that is a product decision. An app that only pulls data from your bank mirrors what the bank already shows you, and staring at a ready-made list does not change behaviour: the act of logging is what turns data into awareness. What Monely removes is the paperwork, not the act. Logging happens by WhatsApp message (text, audio, or image), receipt photo, typing, or importing a file. Import accepts 6 formats: spreadsheets in .csv, .tsv, .xls, and .xlsx, and bank statements in .ofx and .qfx. There are 5 direct importers: Wallet, Minhas Financas, Money Manager, Bluecoins, and Splital.

Which app should I use today if I want bank sync?

Among the apps we verified on 11 August 2026: Wallet by BudgetBakers states on its official features page that it connects to over 15,000 banks worldwide, while the description on its Brazilian App Store listing, read the same day, says 4,000 participating banks (budgetbakers.com), two figures from the same company that do not match; in Brazil, Organizze offers Open Finance from its Conectado plan at R$ 45 per month or R$ 399.90 upfront (organizze.com.br/planos), and Minhas Financas offers it on its Bank plans, with Sync Bank at R$ 199.90 per year for up to 3 banks (minhasfinancas.app.br/planos-precos). We did not verify bank-by-bank coverage for any of them.

How does Monely keep spending in check without category budget caps?

Through income goals and the split between Needed and Wanted. You set what share of the month's income goes to investing, to shared expenses, and to personal spending, and personal spending is then split between what you need and what you want, each with a target share. The classification comes from the subcategory, set once, and every entry inherits it, so there is no decision to make at each entry, which is where category caps usually die. There are also investment goals, with a target amount, a linked account, and a progress bar. The question the method asks is 'do I need this, or do I just want it?'.

Which app works on a computer?

Monely works in the browser at web.monely.app, alongside its Android and iOS apps. Browser access is part of the PRO and Family plans, and of the free plan for as long as the welcome bonus lasts. Among the apps verified on 11 August 2026, Minhas Financas advertises Windows and macOS versions, and the Mobills listing on the Brazilian App Store lists macOS 12 or later with an M1 chip.

How many languages and currencies does Monely support?

8 languages and 155 currencies, plus Bitcoin.

Did GuiaBolso have WhatsApp, OCR, or a financial score?

Earlier versions of this article answered that in yes-or-no tables. Those claims are gone. With the site offline on 11 August 2026, there is no primary source left to re-check what the app offered. What remains verifiable is its history as one of the forerunners of open banking in Brazil, the date of the shutdown announcement, and the data-download deadline.
