Accessibility
Last updated: March 28, 2026
At Monely, we believe that managing personal finances should be accessible to everyone. We are committed to building an inclusive app that can be used by people with different abilities and needs.
This page describes the accessibility features currently available in Monely and the standards we follow to ensure an inclusive experience.
1. VoiceOver (Screen Reader)
What it is
VoiceOver is a screen reader technology built into iOS devices, with an equivalent (TalkBack) on Android. It reads screen elements aloud, letting users navigate the app through touch and gestures without needing to see the screen.
How Monely supports VoiceOver
Monely is built with semantic labels and a logical navigation order to ensure compatibility with screen readers. Interactive elements such as buttons, input fields and navigation links include descriptive labels, allowing the screen reader to communicate their purpose clearly.
- Descriptive labels: buttons and interactive elements have clear text descriptions that are read aloud by the screen reader.
- Logical navigation order: elements on the screen follow a coherent order that makes sequential navigation easier.
- State announcements: changes on the screen, such as success or error messages, are communicated to the screen reader.
Who benefits
- Users who are blind or have low vision
- Users with temporary visual limitations (e.g. eye surgery recovery)
- Users who prefer eyes-free navigation
2. Dark Mode
What it is
Dark mode is an alternative interface presentation that uses dark background colors with light text. It reduces the amount of light emitted by the screen, providing a more comfortable experience in low-light environments.
How Monely implements dark mode
Monely offers full support for dark mode, which can automatically follow the device's system settings or be enabled manually in the app settings. All screens, components and charts have been carefully designed for both themes.
- Full coverage: all screens and components of the app support dark mode.
- Adapted charts: financial charts and graphs have been optimized for readability in dark mode.
- Automatic sync: follows the device's system settings or can be set manually.
Who benefits
- Users with light sensitivity or photophobia
- Users with migraines or chronic headaches
- Users who use the app in low-light environments
- Anyone who wants to reduce eye strain during extended use
3. Color Differentiation Beyond Color Alone
What it is
Color-independent differentiation means that information is never conveyed by color alone. Additional visual cues such as icons, labels and patterns are used to ensure that all information remains understandable even without color perception.
How Monely implements it
In Monely, color is used as a complementary means of communication, not the only one. Financial categories, transaction types and status indicators always use a combination of color, icons and/or text.
- Icons alongside colors: categories and transaction types are represented by distinct icons combined with colors.
- Text labels: status indicators (success, error, warning) use clear text in addition to color coding.
- Distinguishable patterns: charts and graphs use different shapes and patterns, not just colors.
Who benefits
- Users with color blindness (deuteranopia, protanopia, tritanopia)
- Users with reduced color perception
- Users in situations with poor screen conditions (e.g. direct sunlight)
4. Sufficient Contrast
What it is
Sufficient contrast refers to the difference in brightness between the foreground (text, icons) and the background. An adequate contrast ratio ensures that content is clearly legible, including for people with limited vision.
How Monely ensures contrast
Monely follows the contrast ratio recommendations of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to ensure readability throughout the app.
- Normal text: minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 between text and background, in line with WCAG AA.
- Large text: minimum contrast ratio of 3:1 for headings and large text.
- Interactive elements: buttons, links and form fields have sufficient contrast to be clearly identifiable.
- Both themes: contrast standards are maintained in both light and dark modes.
Who benefits
- Users with low vision
- Older users with age-related vision changes
- Users in environments with bright light or glare
- All users, since good contrast improves readability for everyone
5. Additional Accessibility Features
Scalable text sizes
Monely respects the operating system's text size settings. When you increase the font size in your device's settings, the app adapts automatically, ensuring that text remains legible without breaking the interface.
Adequate touch targets
Interactive elements in Monely have been designed with adequate minimum sizes to allow easy and precise tapping. This helps users with limited motor skills as well as anyone using the app with one hand or on the move.
WhatsApp AI assistant
Monely's AI assistant via WhatsApp lets users record financial transactions by sending text, audio or image messages. This alternative interaction model is especially useful for:
- Users who have difficulty with small screens
- Users who prefer voice input over typing
- Users with motor limitations who benefit from voice commands
- Users who prefer the familiar WhatsApp interface
Simple and intuitive navigation
The app has been designed with a clear and predictable navigation structure. The main features are easily accessible from the home screen, and the information architecture follows logical patterns to minimize cognitive load.
- Clear hierarchy: information is organized into logical and predictable categories.
- Consistent navigation: the navigation bar stays in the same position across all screens.
- Visual feedback: user actions receive immediate visual feedback.
6. Our Commitment
Accessibility is an ongoing effort. We are continuously working to improve the experience for all users. Our goals include:
- Regular accessibility testing with assistive technologies
- Incorporating user feedback to identify and fix barriers
- Following platform guidelines from Apple and Google for accessible app development
